If you are wondering why our Clorox and Lysol prices are so expensive (we agree with you, they are very expensive by the way) here is the explanation in full and in detail.

Fast Contact Times for Fast Room Turnover

  • 30 seconds to 1 minute contact times on most bacteria and viruses.
  • Study proves an advantage over a leading quat.
  • More EPA-registered kill claims for antibiotic-resistant organisms than PDI® Super Sani-Cloth® wipes and CaviWipes™ combined.

Better surface compatibility, less residue, faster kill times*. Our hydrogen peroxide disinfectants are designed for you to use them daily on common hospital surfaces. No added fragrances or harsh odors means a better patient experience.

Eligible for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, based on the EPA’s Emerging Viral Pathogen Policy.

On Time

With it being tough to get disinfecting products now, it was great to get bulk so I don't have to sweat when the next time I will be able to get products.

I was thrilled to see hydrogen peroxide wipes. I find them better disinfectant than alcohol and they don’t smell. Give them a chance.

Why are your Lysol and Clorox products so expensive?

Why are your Lysol and Clorox products so expensive?

George Popescu
11 minute read

Hello,

There is a long story. The story starts when we asked our customers their advice and what to do. Should we be listing these exorbitantly priced products or not?

Here is how it started, with an email Brooklyn Textiles and Equipment sent to all our customers:

Hi,

My name is George and I am the founder of Brooklyn Textiles and Equipment. As you can see I can't sleep tonight because I have a question:

"Should we list very expensive Lysol or Clorox products or not?"

I think the best people to take this decision is you, our customers. So we made a survey.

My promise:

If the survey votes NO, these products are going away, forever.

If the survey votes YES, we continue to try to improve on prices and do the best we can to keep these products available at the best possible price.

Help me decide, please.

The arguments

The defense

  1. Lysol and Clorox products are impossible to find right now.
  2. They kill 99.9% of viruses (they claim).
  3. Wholesellers provide them at 3x the price before the crisis.
  4. But we can get them which is not the case for everybody.
  5. People need, seek, and buy them. every day.
  6. They are among our best seller products.
  7. People who are immuno-compromised have begged us to find some for them and we did.
  8. Nobody is obligated to buy any.
  9. And YES, they are horribly expensive, honestly.
  10. But we have them for sale, with no maximums, no minimums, with free shipping, and we ship them within 1 business day.
  11. People get exactly what they expect
  12. Selling these products employs full time 3-4 people in Brooklyn, NY

The public prosecutor

  1. These products are horribly expensive.
  2. These products are our lowest margin items, by far. We buy them for ridiculous amounts. ( Our net margins are around 5-10% at best.)
  3. We get treated of price gougers multiple times a day.
  4. Somebody in the chat today said we are "despicable" for selling them at those prices
  5. We are trying to help, not to hurt. Are we really helping?
  6. It looks like we are trying to get rich when in fact we barely make ends meet on these products.
  7. These products at these prices might erode our image and customer trust.
What to do?
To list or not to list?
I need your advice, please.

So we created a survey, please tell us what you want us to do:

Item being judged 1
Lysol® Disinfectant Spray - Crisp Linen® - 1 can - $17.90

clorox

Item being judged 2
Clorox Clean-up® Disinfectant with Bleach 32OZ Spray - $12.90

Item being judged 3
Lysol® Disinfectant Spray - Crisp Linen® - pack of 12 cans - SHIPS FREE - $298

Item being judged 4
Lysol® Disinfecting Wipes - 6 canisters of 75 wipes - Free Shipping, $126

What goes in a product price on Brooklyn Textiles and Equipment?

  1. The purchase price, of course
  2. Transportation (get product from seller to our warehouse)
  3. The storage cost (receiving team salary, warehouse rent, etc.)
  4. The packing costs ( cardboard box, filler, tape, etc)
  5. The marketing costs ( right now PPE marketing is extremely difficult)
  6. The shipping costs (UPS, USPS...)
  7. The picking costs (people who pick them from the shelves and put them in the box to ship out)
  8. The financing of the purchase capital.
  9. The overhead ( accounting, insurance, taxes etc.)
  10. Returns (defective products are reimbursed 100%, )
  11. Products lost in shipping / never arrived (we replace those at our full expense)
  12. Fraud (fraudulent credit card transactions, etc)
  13. Customer support (we offer chat, phone and email support from Brooklyn NY)"

Our customers voted in the survey and here are the survey results as of June 6th:
